He is willing to engage in diplomacy. How exactly is that a bad thing?

Well, I don't support the Iran deal because I think that the agreement conceded power to Iran and projected the wrong image.

Besides the fact that there's not a chance in hell North Korea would come to the negotiating table or overthrow the Kim regime (which is the only thing that would give North Koreans a quarter-chance at becoming a free democracy), it's not bad at all.

Welcoming and hosting dictators in the US, and bringing them into the White House is... problematic.

Considering where he started, (encouraging Japan and South Korea to get nukes) it's certainly progress.

After Trump loses the election, he should have a podcast where he and a third world dictator (or heck even Putin) go out and get pizza.

There is one living in the White House right now. Wink

Yeah, a guy who was routinely pimp-slapped by John Boehner at the negotiation table is a bona fide dictator.

He and Sarah Palin can have a pizza party in Alaska and watch Putin eat his pizza across the border in Russia.

It's like he would sit down and meet with foreign dictators!

Obama would never suggest such a thing.

Um...has there been a president since before FDR who didn't host a dictator at the White House?

Also, having a hostile foreign leader tour the country can be a massive PR coup, whether it was Khrushchev in the 50s or Ahmadinejad in the 00s. It gives the US a chance to show off to a foreign leader's face.

I'm assuming Trump would just use this as a pretext to murder him, Red Wedding style.

But not all dictators are the same.  The North Korean regime experiences a rare level of international isolation, to the point where getting a face to face meeting with any Western leader (let alone the president of the United States) is something of a PR coup for them.  That’s why they were willing to trade prisoners for a visit from former Pres. Bill Clinton in the past.

So regardless of what Obama said during the 2008 campaign, I don’t actually see him being willing to personally meet with Kim Jong Un without some kind of concession from the North Koreans.  That’s not to say that he wouldn’t be allowed into the country.  Since the UN is in New York, I guess they kind of have to let any foreign head of government in.  But would Obama meet with him while he was there?  I don’t think so.  Nor do I think Hillary Clinton would do it.  Trump…who knows.  He says he would, but I have no idea.

Same goes for Bashar Assad, for that matter.  Setting aside the fact that Assad may not want to visit a Western country for fear of prosecution for war crimes, I don’t see either Obama or Clinton agreeing to meet with him face to face.

I think that the potential for good always exists when folks are willing to talk to their enemies.  It's when folks are desperate for the headlines that come with "historic agreements" that problems start.

This isn't problematic in itself, though Kim would never entertain such an offer.

The problem is that Donald Trump has done nothing but antagonize and alienate our allies whilst doing everything to cozy up to and liken himself to our enemies.

It's like he wants to completely change the fabric of American foreign policy and our allegiances. If Donald Trump were president during WWII, we'd probably join the AXIS.

Kim won't leave NK because he's afraid of a coup. He wouldn't even cross the border into Russia last year when Putin invited him.

Fine idea. I would do it and then indict him for his crimes.
