Never been to San Francisco and I have loved every visit I've had to Los Angeles, so...

LA is pretty much a s***hole with pockets of decent. San Fran is a great, with pockets of nasty.

I like San Francisco, but then I know it better.  I lived in central California, in Alameda County of which Oakland is the seat, for three years and during that time it was only about a one-hour commute, bike then raile, to Market Street.  Los Angeles I have only visited twice, and the longest visit was only four days.  From what I have observed, it is a very different scene than San Francisco.

San Francisco's a better city, but LA has better weather, so it's a tough call.

The city with a more reasonable cost of living, that isn't overrun by tech yuppies.

Los Angeles could find the cures for cancer, AIDS, and the Zika virus and it still wouldn't come close to matching the City by the Bay.

San Francisco by a lot. LA is a pit. I've been several times and strongly dislike it.

Bay Area resident who enthusiastically votes for...

Los Angeles. SF is a mess. It's unpleasant to get around, and it's suffocating on its little peninsula, with bad areas everywhere. LA has some terrible areas, but the nice areas feel more open and have less awfulness bleeding into them.

Bay Area suburbs beat LA sprawl, though.

This might be the first time ever in a poll like this where I've actually lived for an extended amount of time in both places and as such can actually make an informed judgment.

San Francisco by a lightyear.
