Spain. Better climate and food and relaxed people.

Spain, only because the current culture seems more healthy and compatible with my western upbringing.  Tokyo is incredible, Zen is incredible, Japanese industry is impressive, the history is really cool - would like to visit.

I'd want to visit both first, but since I lived in a country quite close to Japan, I'll say Japan for now.

I have never visited Spain, so I can't fairly say.  I loved almost everything about living in Japan though, and would be very happy to live there again.

I've been to Japan much more than I've been to Spain, and it makes me prefer Spain even more.

Nothing against Japan, but I prefer to remain in Europe, so Spain, even though it's too hot (I mean I like hot, but not all year long).

Spain- They have really nice weather and good food.  But, most importantly, I speak Spanish, but not Japanese.

The food was incredibly difficult to navigate in Japan.  It was interesting to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.  Spain would be acceptable in every way.

Only poster who was grumbling about the climate/weather is Polish. How surprising. Nevertheless I wanted to write the same - vote for Spain, although northern part because not that hot (maybe Basque country for some alien language and Carlist echoes of the past).

Spain. Culture shock would be less severe.

Japan. I hate Japan more than I hate Spain, but I like Japan a lot more than I like Spain. My sense of style would be less under attack in Japan. Also, Japan has better food.

Definitely Japan. It's at least among the top 3 countries I'd most like to live in around the world. I love the culture, the food, and I'd like to be forced to finally make a very serious effort to learn the language. To be honest, Japan is one of the counties I'd most like to live in, period.

Spain for sure, one of the best countries in the world to live in (if you have a job). East Asia fascinates me, but it's not for me.

I love when it's warm... just not the entire year.

Is there any other language that resembles Basque?

Maybe Klingon?

No, though the theory that a pre Indo-European language in Europe from which Basque derived did influence Indo-European languages, particularly the Romance ones, as they developed in Europe, is plausible.

Either would be great. I'll say Japan because that would give me an excuse to learn Japanese (which I think is a really nice-sounding language for some reason). I already speak some Spanish.
