Warriors. I am biased, because I hate basketball and did a 2-hour happy dance after the Giants won that game.

I mean, has to be the Warriors, because the undefeated sample size is way smaller, and anything can happen in one football game.

If you consider the 3-1 lead the Warriors had, the most shocking defeat is the cavs over the Warriors.

The Cavs were in good form. I felt they had a chance. No one gave the Giants a prayer. That was not a #1 seed. They were pathetic.

Yankees blowing a 3-0 series lead to the Red Sox in 2004 should be up here too.

But in all seriousness, it's the "18-1" Patriots. No one gave the Giants a prayer.

Baseball is the only pro American sport that can have truly massive upsets because it's the least socialist. Neither comes close to Aberdeen defeating Real Madrid in the 1983 Cup Winners' Cup final or Steaua Bucharest defeating Barcelona in the 1986 European Cup final.

I don't get what you're saying here.

I'm mostly referring to salary caps and other "socialist" restrictions in other major American sports. The NBA probably has more historical freeloader teams than just about anyone else.

Football is objectively the sport more prone to upsets, because the sample size is way smaller.  Fewer possessions within a game, and fewer games (ONE!) within an elimination series.

The better team has fewer games to capitalize on their edge, and the smaller the sample size the greater opportunity that the game can swing on something flukey.

Alright it was technically a semi-final and not a final, but I think that it counts!

The best bit about this was that it totally embarrassed Nate Silver and his dumb attempts to try and analyse football like its Baseball or Cricket or something where statistical analysis like his is actually useful: he predicted something like a 2-0 Brazil win with an absurdly low change for a German won.
