I went with Landrieu...Huey Long proved segregationists were not the best that could come from the state long before the Civil RIghts era, so that knocks out Ellender and Russell.

So that leaves it to Johnston and Landrieu...I give the edge to Landrieu.

As for worst, that guy who lost to John Bel Edwards in the gubernatorial.

Yoiu must have meant Russell Long. Huey was very pro-civil rights for a 30s Southern politician.

Exactly, which is why those who succeeded him [Huey] are nothing but disappointments. If Huey hadn't been as pro civil-rights as he was, maybe one could've chalked up segregation as coming with the turf...but nope.

The only 302s/40s politicians with similar stance I can think of were Claude Pepper, Jim Folsom, Sr. and Sid McMath.

Every "bad" Southern Republican Senator is better than any Southern Democrat who opposed giving Black Americans their Constitutionally guaranteed rights.  Period.

Right, so what do you call the switchovers who became Republican in revolt then, do they magically become non-Southern?

Also, Edward Gurney the corrupt says hi...pity everyone else went with Rubio.

Rebuttal, please.  I believe not supporting Black people's right to vote, shop and dine where they'd like, get an education and even get a fair trial/justice when their own had been MURDERED is a lot worse than whatever modern Southern Republicans have done or said.

But I'm sure you'll still disagree because muh populism.

I will go off of the CRA and VRA vote, and by my count there was ONE Southern Democratic Senator who switched and that was Thurmond.  And I'm not a fan at all.

It is pretty sure that, for instance, if Jeff Sessions (and many other southern Republicans) had lived in the 60's, he'd be a segregacionist Dixiecrat
