Being 'out of touch' has been an issue in pretty much every election in the past 20 years.  Candidates like Mitt Romney, John Kerry, and Al Gore all struggled with being labeled as out of touch, either because of their massive wealth or because of the kinds of food they like.  In 2004, we had the clips of John Kerry wind surfing in Massachusetts and the to-do in Philly over him ordering swiss cheese on his cheese steak.  Mitt Romney had the 47% issues, among lots of other things.

In my opinion, Trump is more out of touch than any of them.  According to is own daughter, he claimed to know what it was like to be homeless because of his bankruptcy issues.  So far, it hasn't seemed to be an issue for him.  I might even go so far as to say that he's winning the 'I'd like to have a beer with them' vote.  Why?

Because his public persona is very much not like a stereotypical politician.

Sound blunt, loud, and use the simplest phrases and you're a commoner, simple as that.

Billy C did it, Dubya did it, even Obama did it to some (albeit lesser) extent

He will if he loses.

You list Gore/Kerry/Romney...because they lost. Let's not forget Obama had plenty of problems with being "out of touch" due to being "elitist", his gun/religion comments, etc. Had he lost, he would've been seen as the one that was out of touch.

Romney is rich like the banker who denies you loan is rich. Trump is more like Willy Wonka rich.
