He's the Republican Congressman from New York's 1st Congressional District, which is only R+2 on the Cook PVI. Zeldin is also the guy that said "You can easily argue that the president of the United States is a racist." How likely is he to win reelection?

I think he wins like 53-47%. He's from one of the more liberal areas of the district has networked successfully in the area during his campaigns for State Senator and also while he was State Senator.

Does he have a viable opponent? This is the kind of seat that falls if Trump collapses.

I could see Trump doing well in Long Island/Staten Island even if he craters nation wide. But, lean no.

Either Democrat seems to be doing a decent job in this race in terms of fundraising, so i'd pin Zeldin as the underdog in this race.

It looks like the two Democrats running seem to be holding up alright. This is from the FEC:

2016   PRE-PRIMARY: Total Receipts, Total Disbursements, Cash on Hand

-Lee Zeldin (R) - $306,281, $248,670, $1,791,239

-Anna Throne-Holst (D) - $274,358, $728,859, $660,447

-David L Calone (D) - $170,041, $575,895, $500,675

Calone was endorsed by NYT I think, but Anna Throne-Holst was endorsed by a ton of big name Democrats like Sen. Gillibrand and a bunch of NY representatives.

So Zeldin has nearly two million dollars while his nearest competitor is at about $650,000? Even combined, Zeldin has 1.5x more than Calone(which auto-correct changes to Capone) and Throne-Holst.

I would think many Democrats are waiting to find out who the actual nominee is before donating. Zeldin's position does not look so comfortable to me.
