Anti-War Democrats form the Progressive party
Goldwater forms Libertarian party and chooses John Hospers as VP

Nixon does not run, Romney wins and chooses Reagan as VP

This will be a series.

Goldwater/Hospers

Though Goldwater definitely would not be a libertarian.

Would've picked Romney if had been someone like Mathias or Brooke.

Wallace? But why? He was a racist segregationist. Why not Nixon if you support the whole law and order thing?

Protest vote. He wouldn't win. All 3 candidates were jackasses. Wallace pandered to racists, but he wasn't racist himself. He was just a jackass. Nixon on the other hand might have been personally prejudiced and had a terrible personality. HHH is just more LBJ. And I'm somewhat criminal defendant/civil libertarian friendly, so Nixon vs. Wallace trying to out law-and-order each other cancels out for me. Plus, I always enjoy a good southern candidate. It's why I can't entirely hate Bill Clinton or  Lindsay Graham, even though I should. And Curtis LeMay is parodied in Dr. Stangelove.

Sometimes in bad elections I'd rather not join America in touching the hot stove.

Well said. I admit I'm sometimes a bit too simplistic in my embrace of Wallace (and sometimes I just do it as a mild troll) but in reality, I like Wallace because he was essentially a good man who did some bad things because of a fatal flaw of being obsessed with power. Nixon, on the other hand, was just awful in every sense of the word.

Ugh, I would be a tossup voter between Wallace and Goldwater. I'd probably vote for who has a higher chance of winning in my state so Wallace.

You are not a classic conservative.  Period.

Wallace was a liberal who was also racist.  You seem attracted to his racism, which has nothing to do with conservatism at all.

You don't decide conservatism, which can to an extent be extended from Mussolini to Ayn Rand.
