What exactly is sexist about Trump's campaign?

Trump said that women should face criminal punishment for having abortions (but of course the men who got them pregnant should not). Then he had to walk it back after a firestorm of controversy.

And Trump said of Clinton:

Never mind that Hillary Clinton is a former two-term senator from a major state and a former Secretary of State, that she has negotiated treaties and had tough encounters with Putin over matters of statecraft.  Trump reduces her to just her gender.  And the situation is made even more ridiculous given that Trump is completely lacking in comparable experience.

There is a reason why Trump has disapproval ratings among women of 70% or more.  Perhaps you can provide an alternative explanation other than the fact your candidate is a sexist $hi*heel.

First of all, he didn't say there should be criminal punishment, just some form of punishment. But second, how exactly are are men responsible unless it was a pregnancy caused by rape (which is a crime, and for which most pro-life people exempt from abortion laws) or if they pressured the woman into having an abortion? If you argue that it is solely a woman's right to choose, how can men be even partly responsible for something for a matter they have no say on?

As far as the woman card goes, Clinton plays it daily.

We are taking as abortion as an illegal offense.  LOL, what kind of punishment do you think Trump was taking about?  Put women in the stocks?  Do you agree with Trump that women should face punishment?  What would that be exactly?

I also see you made no attempt to explain why Trump has 70%+ disapprovals with women -- because you cannot offer one other than the explanation I gave.

Illegal is not the same thing as criminal. Illegal immigration can be a rather serious offense, depending on the circumstances, but illegal immigration itself is not a crime. Additionally, pre-Roe v. Wade, state abortion laws held abortionists responsible, not the women. The main purpose of abortion laws is to reduce the number of abortions, and punishments are a means to an end. Should we punish women, who will have no more than one or two abortions in their lives, or abortionists, who make it their living to perform abortions? Punishing women serves only to publicly condemn them, and I think that condemnation and forgiveness are a matter solely between the woman and her creator, not government.

As for Trump's disapproval ratings with women, there are many reasons for that. A major part of it is Trump's rhetoric, but I wouldn't say he is running a sexist campaign. I admit he's running a white male identity politics campaign, which I'm not entirely comfortable with, but Democrats run identity politics campaigns all the time, and nobody says that they run racist campaigns. Single women are not a GOP constituency anyway, so there is a low ceiling for GOP candidates for women. Also, women just think and make decisions differently than men, and Trump's messaging towards women has been deficient so far.

Well, Trump was talking about punishment and given the stream of misogynistic comments he has made about women both during this campaign and in his past, I wouldn't like to see what punishment he would dream up.

I have known multiple women who dealt with unwanted pregnancies.  Some had abortions, others didn't.  In some cases, the male partner was involved in the decision, discussed it with her, provided financial help and drove her to the clinic.  I think it is positive he was there for her, but if abortion was illegal, how could one say he was not culpable?

Then there was the case where the man just took off after he discovered she was pregnant.  She was left to shoulder the burden alone.  This is an all too common story.  She decided to keep the child but what if she had made another choice?  Per Trump only she would be "punished."

I wholeheartedly disagree that Trump is not running a sexist campaign.  It is the most blatantly sexist campaign I have seen by a major party nominee.
