I don't know, but I'm pretty sure someone who speaks in favor of gun control if in a rural community in Wyoming, or says that Obama is a great President in certain places of the Deep South, or that people like Kim Davis should shut up and do their damn job in the middle of Oklahoma, etc. might run into trouble.

That's fair.  I've never been to those areas you mentioned, so I couldn't say that for sure, but it's plausible, I guess.

Wait, what caused people to change their vote from FF to HP?  I don't recall any real switch in anything he's believed recently.
Yeah, screw him. I'd like to change my vote.

Unapologetically racist, so there's that. Horrifying politics even if he's nice.

This, HP

Well, RFayette, I looked through his early July 2 posts. Maybe the trio above were offended by him calling the GOP an anti-white hate group here:

Apparently finding a candidate who once espoused racist views but then renounced them (George Wallace) less awful than other awful candidates is itself racist, unless the first candidate is Robert Byrd or William Fulbright or Woodrow Wilson or any other Democrat who held lefty views. Because something something privilege something something icky Republicans.

I defended the dictionary definition of Apartheid, not the implementation or any of the actions conducted under the banner of Apartheid. Segregation, separate but equal, second-class citizens, etc. are all wrong.

Whilst also claiming that there's nothing wrong about racism, and that HIV/AIDs is a non-issue when discussing people's records/historical impact

Dictionary definition of Apartheid (as per dictionary.com):

1. (in the Republic of South Africa) a rigid former policy of segregating and economically and politically oppressing the nonwhite population.

2. any system or practice that separates people according to color, ethnicity, caste, etc.

That is a very casual definition of Apartheid. Apartheid in its original form meant "separateness", meaning dividing South Africa into separate nation-states largely based on ethnic lines. The Boers, Zulus, etc. would all have their own countries that they could call home, with sovereignty and international recognition for all. Unfortunately, this idea was quickly perverted by whites who wanted all the land for themselves, while marginalizing blacks to guest worker status, and from there it became the morally indefensible system that came to be known as Apartheid. Even de Klerk, the man who dismantled Apartheid, defends the original idea of sovereign nation-states.

I simply believe that we are too black-and-white when we talk about many political and historical figures. Human beings are complicated, and we should view them as a whole and not allow individual faults to overshadow all of their other characteristics.

None of this has anything to do with what Apartheid actually became and the fact that conservative politicians supported it.  But you knew that already.

Gone AWOL after turning republican, maybe this explains how former democrats, get dis-enchanted with the democratic party, turn republicans, and then now express their crazy views.

Yeah, i vored HP but admittedly was too chicken sh**t to say so out loud . after this most recent thread I'll gladly say that the fact he tries to be nice doesn't overcome his horrible slef-justified racism.

There is a point at which one"political " views define one's fundamental character , or lack thereof .

This thread and the gradual tide turning in it is a classic example of the failure of the "I don't agree with all his views but nice guy, FF Smiley" way of thinking that's way too prevalent here.
