Even among WSJ/NBC, "the survey showed only 10% of Sanders supporters favoring Mr. Trump."

Remember too that McCain was widely liked among the democrats for years.  He was the "sane Republican" to hold up against Bush, and the guy that democrats would always point to when asked "are there any Republicans you like?"  It makes sense that a fair number of democrats were voting for him or had favorable opinions of him.

He was also very good friends with Hillary personally.

It was also a much closer race in 2008.

Makes sense. Say what you will about McCain, but he's not an unqualified lunatic.

Good, good, but we need to also consider the % supporting third party or "undecided" before we can conclude anything.

He's a war hero because he was captured. I like guys that weren't captured.

McCain was a respectable Republican before he picked Palin, and really if any other candidate of  '08 had run, they probably would've been Goldwatered .

That and Obama was still seen as an inexperienced flip-flop.

With the current climate, trump keeps alienating someone, and Clinton is at least seen as experienced and likely to get some things done if not all.

That's debatable. Romney and Huckabee had their owns pros and cons. And as we witness this cycle polarization makes all but certain that a Goldwater/MocGovern style defeat is almost out of the question for anyone.

This poll is clearly invalid.  Someone needs to unskew it.  The racist misogynist geezer has clearly been driving his fans to Trump with his unprecedented, breathtakingly reckless behavior, as many of my friends on here have very cogently argued many times.

Should folks ignore the information coming from Bloomberg? On where Bernie supporters are heading, it says:

55% Clinton
22% Trump
18% Johnson

That sure looks like 45% not going for Clinton (at least at this point).

And what might be the most problematic of the findings:

Of course they turn overwhelmingly to Hillary. Why should they vote for a narcissist fake billionaire whose main business is fraud? They want social justice, and that won’t happen with someone who wants to give massive tax breaks for real billionaires and large corporations and who insults minorities in a disgusting way. They want to get the student debt crisis resolved; something, the self-proclaimed “king of debt” has no clue of, although he has broad experience with bankruptcies.

So sorry, but wanting social justice doesn't necessarily make Hillary Clinton your goto candidate, despite what you may wish.

For Bernie-fans, she’s certainly the better alternative.

I think Romney may have been Goldwatered. With his direct connections to the financial industry, the Great Recession would have damaged him much more than it even did McCain.

Huckabee on the other hand may have been able to win Indiana and possibly North Carolina.

All one has to do is look at the GOP nominee in 2008 versus 2016 and see why progressives are quicker to jump on the bandwagon this year.

This is a clear junk poll. Supporters of that misogynist squirrel torturer Sanders would sooner vote for a literal fascist than they would vote for a woman.

Ok, TRUMP is a narcisisst. But who cares? But why he is he a "fake billionaire"?

There are several experts who question his actual status as a billionaire. First, why doesn’t the Trumpster release his tax returns? I suppose there are several reasons: Taxes (he likely pays nothing or next to nothing). Then maybe illegal connections (mafia?) and, of course, his net worth. He doesn’t want people to know that he’s not as rich as a claims to be. And second, his campaign finances. The reason why he’s begging for donations now is because he has no money left. If he were worth TEN BILLION DOLLARS (in all caps,. like he wrote it in his so called financial statement) or even 4.5 billion (Forbes), 500 million dollars for a campaign (the amount Mitt spent) would be peanuts.

Therefore I’m sure his net worth is likely between 150 and 200 million dollars (all he owns minus debt). Claims to be a billionaire, but isn’t actually one. Call it what you want. Fraud, scam or fake billionaire.

A segment of Hillary's '08 voters were part of an older Democratic coalition. Whiter, more working class, more receptive to Republicans, and really, they pretty much are now (even if they're still registered as Democrats in states like West Virginia, Kentucky and Oklahoma). So when their choice was some old white guy and a young, more... urban candidate, they went with the old white guy. At least before the crash happened.

Exactly. I think it will be very easy for Hillary to consolidate the Democratic Party this year. Nothing motivates voters like being terrified of the other party's candidate.
