I would like to echo the sentiment above and extend it to all threads on European politics in general.
Most other threads in this subforum have been hijacked and rendered virtually illiterate and impossible to read because of American posters.

We are lucky that content has been maintained sensibly in this particular thread and I would encourage the Americans to please desist without employing the brain in the first instance.

I am looking forward to the next thread on "Which European Parliament political group would you be a member of".

Does anyone reckon this could be like the 1981 Deputy Leadership?

Again, the type of people who go to CLP meetings are a bit different from the wider membership - it suggests that Corbyn is in front sure, but honestly that's what you'd expect considering that his supporters are probably more likely to be the sort of people that'd go to CLP meetings.  Could be wrong though; I'm not a Labour party expert.

The Party appealed and won. Basically the Court of Appeal picked up the judgment of the lower court and contemptuously ripped it to pieces.

Which, by the way, is significant for other parties and indeed clubs, societies and so on: it means that the law has not been changed and that they remain basically sovereign over their own affairs.

Why is the Labour Party so keen on shooting itself in the feet?

Surely the Blairite Smith supporters won't take this too well?

Official TU supporting nominations...

Corbyn: ASLEF, BFAWU, CWU, FBU, UCATT, Unison, Unite
Smith: Community, GMB, Musicians Union, USDAW
No Nomination: BECTU, NUM, TSSA

With the closure of Kellingley the NUM has a membership of 100 and probably is going to be RIP soon so no nomination is as expected and BECTU didn't nominate last time. TSSA is rather surprising as their exec has endorsed Corbyn and senior officials are working on his campaign. I suspect they cocked the paperwork up.

Members 350,000
Affiliates 168,000
RS 129,000

Change on last time...

Members: +58,000
Affiliates +20,000
RS +17,000

Close to a third of RS applications rejected then.

Ugh. I thought Corbyn was at least above this kind of dishonesty. At this point I'll be heartbroken if he still somehow wins.

What do you mean by "somehow"?
Clarification to the foreign posters: he will win.

When your opponent is Owen "Let's talk with ISIS" Smith, I don't see how that's surprising.

I note that the likes of Hilary "Let's bomb the s***t out of ISIS" Benn have had eff all to say about that idiotic statement. Just about understandable (doesn't want to damage the attempt to oust Corbyn) but you can see why much of the non-Corbynite part of the PLP (that being most of it) is viewed as unprincipled and careerist.

Corbyn is a symptom of a wider malaise rather than it's cause. It's amusing but also telling how many people phrase arguments in his favour in the language of an excuse. But you shouldn't be surprised that anyone appealing to a curiously never particularly defined sense of authenticity turns out to be made of plastic. Only the inverse would be surprising.
