Jarrett doesn't rule out running for office.

Glad to hear it - can't wait to vote against him again!

This time, I have the feeling I'll be on the winning side.

I think the results will be the same as Carter 1980, just with the parties switched.

You think Rauner will lose DuPage?  GMAFB!

No worries - Cook's got this.

Oh  my god this entire thread.

Guys, let's save the apples and oranges comparisons (hint hint a statewide election is not the same as a freaking presidential election) for when the election actually happens.

Also, could Kansas 2018 be just like FDR 1932 all over again!?

It's driving me nuts that the word "Illinois" is misspelled in the title of this topic.

As an Illinois native, I agree.  It's the internet equivalent of someone who says "Illinoise".

Dems should win this if they aren't dumb enough to nominate a crap candidate like Quinn or Giannoulias. Sadly, in Illinois, this could very well happen.
What did Giannoulias do that was so horrible?

He lost to Mark Kirk in one of the most Democratic states in the country.

I think he's asking how did his campaign implode.

Is there any possibility that Illinois could have a governor from downstate who isn't a corrupt Chicago hack or an oligarch?

(Other than digging Adlai Stevenson's corpse up and bringing it back to life.)

Cheri Bustos, Jim Langfelder, Douglas P. Scott, and Dick Durbin are the main Democrats I can find from downstate. If you are remotely serious about the last part, Adlai Stevenson IV is only fifty-nine or sixty years old now. He's a business executive who used to be a journalist(print and television). I don't know if he has ever been involved in politics before, but it would be pretty cool for history and political junkies like us.

Treasurer Michael Frerichs is from downstate (Champaign). If he was from Cook, he almost certainly would have lost in 2014. State Rep Jerry Costello is the son of the former congressman and has the potential for higher office. Senator Andy Manar (Macoupin county) has taken a prominent role in education funding and is  a former chief of staff to Sen Pres Cullerton.

With 64% of the vote, which isn't enough. Dems didn't vote. They will this time.
