I think that Charles Tavis has a good chance of winning the UKIP election.

Nuttall is an aggressive professional Scouser with the charm and general manner of a car salesman. Which is not exactly electoral gold.

Yeah there is literally no market for that type of politics here whatsoever. What always needs to be remembered about UKIP, of course, is that they're basically a pensioners party.

This is a country that voted for Thatcher three times, a figure that UKIP adopted in No True Scotsman like manner. I know there is a great deal of mythology about Thatcher reducing state expenditure (when she did so only sparingly), but her support in places like Essex stemmed from the core classical liberal message, that coincidently happens to be UKIP's strongest performing area, and where their only MP, a libertarian, was elected. Perhaps based on his name, yes, but elected nonetheless.

What you need to understand is that how Thatcherism was sold to the electorate and how it has been marketed abroad subsequently were/are not the same thing. The message sold abroad you know, of course. But back home it was basically: we, the government, are going to make you richer. And we're going to do that by cutting the state where it works as a block on your income but protecting it where it safeguards your income. And we're going to give you lots and lots of freebies. We're on your side, see? How's this going to be paid for? Firstly, the oil windfall which is literally free money, isn't that great? Secondly, by slashing back on services that are mostly used by Labour voters, but don't worry about them they're just trash anyway.

I mean that's not a suspicion but a certainty.
