I've only been to the one's Canadian mainline churches put on. If the American ones are anything like that, I'm not a fan. That goes for all services based around secular holidays.

I believe that America was founded and organized upon Christian principles and that the Constitution was inspired by God, but I agree that the merging of Christian traditions with secular holidays comes dangerously close to deifying the state. It's "God and country", don't merge the two.

Are there any others? I suppose Mother's/Father's Day but those are always on Sunday anyway.

This church I was at over Memorial Day weekend this year did this really creepy thing where they used 'America the Beautiful' as the communion anthem.

I don't find Mother's/Father's Day services objectionable, actually, partly (but not only) since there's Christian precedent for them even though they're not currently religious celebrations.

^The bolded statement, if interpreted to mean anything beyond that Christian principles informed the Constitution in some capacity, really bothers me. Are all government documents divinely inspired or only that of the US?

A little more than mildly. I'm OK with "God Bless America" as a recessional hymn on the Sunday of that week, and that's about the max I'm willing to listen to these people talk about this country.

You guys should see how overly patriotic Mormon church services on the week of the 4th of July are.

Only if Independence Day falls on the Sabbath itself does it constitute as justified.

Besides using the hymnal versions of the Anthem, "America the Beautiful", etc. I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Traces its origins to a late-Victorian Methodist Sunday school in Coney Island, if memory serves.

Around here, Victoria Day, Labour Day, and Remembrance Day are also observed by most mainline Protestant churches.

Lots and lots of testimonies about how great America is, and how even today its a shining light to the world, all the prayers saying a bunch about America and preserving it in "these perilous times", etc, etc. Maybe its just Utah.

Also we are basically the most Americana-infused religion ever. I mean, the Americas are literally a promised land, and the New Jerusalem being in Missouri and the whole Garden of Eden thing and all that.

Not the other stuff that Santander said.

But seriously, Christianity is good and the US is good, but they never ought to get mixed up with each other.

OMG creepy.

Let me tell you something: I once remember reading a timeline where someone said "If my last name were Rockefeller, the last word I would use would be 'monopoly'." And if I were you, the last word I would ever use to describe something else would be "creepy".

I've only been to my dad's church a handful of times, but this was pretty much every week. We'd start every mass with the Pledge of Allegiance, then some weird other Pledge to that made up Christian flag, and then sing "God Bless America."

I understand that this sends a bit of a mixed message, but the entire song is a prayer for God to render America more Godly:

I'm not a big fan of "Patriotic Services" because much of it provides apologia for a number of facets of our nation that I consider un-Godly.  America, the Beautiful is, however, a song that calls for God to perfect our Nation, and that is very much in the spirit of 2 Chronicles 7:14
