Strategery:
An Election 2000 Game by DKrol

2000. One of the closest elections in American history. An election that shifted America's path dramatically. You saw how Karl Rove and Donna Brazile managed it. Now, it's your turn.

Rules and Regulations
  • Each round will cover one week IG
  • Each round will last, at minimum, 48 hours and, at maximum, 96 hours
  • The game will begin on April 2, 1999
  • Each round will start with an updated poll summary and a list of the upcoming electoral contests
  • Periodically, news events will be introduced to elicit responses from the players that will impact the race
  • Players are encourage to post, for each round, a schedule for the week. It can be as in-depth as an hourly itinerary for the candidate, or it can be as general as a summary of the entire week
  • Players should PM me, the Game Moderator, for endorsements. The PM should contain the name of the person you'd like to be endorsed by, the most recent office or position they've held, and a brief reason why they would endorse you (Ie: George H.W. Bush, former President, should endorse George W. Bush because he is his son.)
  • Advertisements will be accepted, if you want to make them, but they're not 100% required
  • All events have in this TL have occurred as they did in OTL
  • Independent/Third Party candidates will be accepted, but be warned that they will have to work very hard to make a national impression

Why are there two for the same year at the same time?

Why are there two for the same year at the same time?

The other 2000 game, in my opinion, is far too unrealistic. Two terms of Ross Perot, winning a massive landslide in 1996, with Al Gore serving half a term as VP? I can't see there being a way to reasonably suggest what 2000 would look like. I'm doing mine as an straight up, traditional election game.

Strategery: Round One
April 2, 1999 - April 8, 1999

The 2000 Presidential race got under way this week, as several big name candidates announced they would be seeking the Oval Office after President Clinton gets the boot. Who will succeed the Comeback Kid? Voters in Iowa will get their say in a few short months. Polls at this stage show Vice President Al Gore has a strong lead among Democratic primary voters, while the Republican field, which is more crowded, is much more turbulent. The fields are not settled, as the filing deadline isn't until April 15, 1999. A last minute entry on either side could shake up the race.

Democratic Iowa Poll
Vice President Al Gore - 50%
Former Senator Bob Kerrey - 24%
Senator Paul Wellstone - 17%
Senator Chuck Robb - 9%

Republican Iowa Poll
Governor George W. Bush - 29%
Former Secretary Jack Kemp - 28%
Former WH Aid Pat Buchanan - 19%
General Colin Powell - 18%
Senator Orrin Hatch - 4%
Senator George Voinovich - 2%

Democratic New Hampshire Poll
Vice President Al Gore - 49%
Senator Paul Wellstone - 25%
Former Senator Bob Kerrey - 15%
Senator Chuck Robb - 11%

Republican New Hampshire Poll
General Colin Powell - 33%
Governor George W. Bush - 27%
Former Secretary Jack Kemp - 19%
Senator George Voinovich - 16%
Former WH Aid Pat Buchanan - 3%
Senator Orrin Hatch - 2%

This Round will end on Monday, July 11 at 8PM EST. Late deciders looking to jump into the race should PM me. Endorsements will be given out at the end of the round.
