Ugh, not that argument again. The reasons those countries are horrible has nothing to do with polygamy laws.

Yep, it's like Republicans in the '50s or Democrats now citing Mississippi as an example of how the other party governs badly ... SO many other reasons for things being bad there.

Tl;dr answer: No, but I don't think social liberals have any good reason to oppose it given their first principles. Consenting adults etc.

I'm going to go Moderate Hero and say maybe, but society isn't ready for it.

Technically this, but leaning towards yes. Not like any answer on this is gonna be a winner for me anyway.

For the time being, same-sex polygamy and same-sex polyandry should be legalized. However, people in plural marriages should be unable to both raise and adopt children for the time being (due to a lack of information about how this will affect children).

As for opposite-sex plural marriages, I am hesitant to support legalizing them right now since they might result in a gender imbalance in regards to people who are seeking relationships and/or marriages.

No way. I see big problems with how things like estates and divorces would fall out. It is way too messy to allow. You have one person who you can enter into this type of contract with and thats it.

Well, lawmakers can try coming up with some kind of framework to deal with this messiness. Smiley

I don't care.. I would vote no if it was put to a referendum, but if the majority of people voted yes, it wouldn't be a big deal..  Hardly anyone would actually WANT to be in a polygamous marriage even if it was legal, so it wouldn't affect anyone else.

In some countries, polygamy is legal, but only for Muslims.

I'm not under the impression that polygamy is necessary to practice any going religion. Even if it were, we (in America) have Reynolds v. United States addressing literally this exact issue.

WTF?!  How is this in any way analogous?  Two guys in some other state getting married doesn't affect me at all and in some ways has good legal and contractual benefits.  Three people getting married creates all kinds of legal and contractual issues.
... Are you implying three people getting married affects you.
