Option 2. I think it is a good cause and I definitely believe that #BlackLivesMatter. Like similar movements, there are some radicals within it that gives it a bad perception, and I also think they could readjust their focus a little. If they start advocating for violence of any sort, I'd go to Option 3.

an important message, though message seems to be all it is, without any practical proposals.  which is fine, if they are going after greater cultural change through awareness, but that means that tactics which antagonize the public only serve to counteract the message without any clear agenda being advanced.

They should focus more on gang violence, something that claims far more black lives than police brutality (which is also an issue). We need to see mass demonstrations for the victims of gang warfare.

Come on, PiT, don't fall into that stupid trap argument. What change do you want to come out of this? Is more policing an easy argument for them to make?

Suggesting that there are other pressing matters that a group that ostensibly cares about black people should also branch out to (note that I did not say they should just pretend that police brutality is not a thing) is a "stupid trap argument"? I'd hate to see what you think the good arguments are.

As for what change, do you mean with the police? I would support an end to racial profiling practices, which is at root a training and discipline issue. I have heard it posited (a weak way to put it, but I have not found the time to hunt up sources) that the police are becoming increasingly hesitant to confront non-white suspects as a result of recent protests, but that is not the answer. We all, criminals and law-abiding citizens alike, should be treated equally before the law.

It's been fun to watch option 2 drop from 63% support to 46% support.
