I know that Newt Gingrich is not from Florida but Georgia, Gingrich's home state, borders Florida. So if Gingrich is selected as Donald Trump's running mate, could it boost Trump in Florida?

Maybe, but I have doubts about it. Little Marco would definitely help more.

Gingrich's negatives outweigh anything he might bring to the ticket.

Great ..... a double-negative ticket.

Nobody in Florida would care that he is from Georgia. He's an angry old white guy who was relevant 20 years ago, and that won't matter to any swing voter.

Is this like Joe Manchin's mega-coattails that helped Tim Kaine get elected in 2012?

Would Clinton picking Sherrod Brown help her win Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia?

I've never understood the border state argument. In this case it's even worse because Newt hasn't been relevant in years, young voters wouldn't even care. Most people probably don't follow a border state's politics unless it's a huge story getting national attention. You could maybe make a small argument if you're in a border media market, but even then I doubt that would have too much impact.

I know certain candidates might appeal more to their region, but a state as big and diverse as FL?

By that logic, Al Gore would have a constitutional right to win Kentucky.

Gingrich would really help trump in FL in 1994.

Which is basically when this cycle is now going to take place, right?

No.  The most populous parts of Florida have literally nothing to do with Georgia.

And specifically the parts Trump needs to win to have a chance in the state. He's going to do fine in the panhandle.
