Will Trump's struggles with Mormons cause him to lose this city, which was a 20-point Romney win in 2012?

A generic R would be far from guaranteed to win SLC. I can't see Trump winning it.

Obama actually won Salt Lake City twice (the first time 70%-30%, the next time probably about 60%-40%), it's just the county as a whole which voted for Romney.

With how the state is polling, I don't ever see Trump winning SLC or its county.

Do we even know if Obama won it against Romney? He lost the county, but did he lose the city?

Salt Lake City is actually strongly Democratic, and will be this time especially. Salt Lake County will probably go to Clinton as well.

Yeah, Romney lost the city.

Salt Lake City is a liberal stronghold....of course Clinton will win it.

In fact, SL City is mostly the reason the Utah GOP gerrymandered the hell out of Salt Lake County with the congressional districts.

Clinton will win Salt Lake City, and could very well win Salt Lake County too.

Obama did win Salt Lake County in '08 and lost it by 20 points against Romney in '12.

I can't find any precinct level results, but my assumption would be that the City votes significantly more Democratic than the suburbs/exurbs/ and rural areas in the county.

Considering what a poor fit Trump is for Utah in general and what polling information we have, it appears more than likely that Hillary will win SLC, and possibly the county as well, perhaps even by slightly greater margins than Obama '08.

Salt Lake City is actually really liberal (even though they have an Olympics-fueled fondness for Romney). They have an openly gay mayor, the hero of Kitchen v. Herbert as a city councilman, most of the Dem representation in the state legislature comes from Salt Lake City, etc. They also have the headquarters of the LDS Church, but by pure votes, the LDS leaders and LDS Church employees don't actually provide many votes.

Incidentally, because of district map quirks, the headquarters of the LDS Church is represented by a very out and proud openly gay man, State Senator Jim Dabakis (who was also Utah Democratic Chair). He was married to his partner by the previous mayor of Salt Lake City.

So all that being said, Hillary will win by double digits. The LDS folks in the city hate Trump, and the liberal-leaning folks never would have voted Trump and will be more eager to go vote.
