Ugh, I hate Evan Bayh. Does anyone know if he's still popular enough to win statewide? I guess it would be worth it for the majority and Supreme Court appointments.

IMO, this is a Tossup now at worst - Young won't be easy to beat. Would have been Likely D had Stutzman won the GOP primary, though.

Another seat the RSCC has to defend it what will be a tough year.

Wow, Bayh currently has almost 10 million COH that he can use for this race. Hill only had 300K as of the last report.

As much has I really dislike Bayh, this is a recruiting coup for the Democrats.

I don't care about how terrible Bayh can be, senate majority is at stake so you will hold your noise and support him, and I'm sure you will do that Smiley

Yeah, after my initial disgust I've come to realize winning the Senate seat is more important. Maybe he's moved a bit to the left since 2010?

Sabato moves the race from Likely R to Toss Up.

Why didn't he run in the primaries if he wanted to be senator again? Is he jumping in because the democrats see chances in Indiana now Trump is about to choose Pence as his running mate?

For sure, it's a lot of political calculation.

I can't imagine him jumping in without having very consistent internal polling that has him up by a decent amount.

Where the hell did Bayh even get all that money before suddenly announcing a campaign?

It's from his 2010 campaign that he abandoned and never gave to anyone else in 2010, 2012, or 2014.

Wow, if true this becomes gain #3 (along with Illinois and Wisconsin, naturally). Only would need one of Arizona, Florida, New Hampshire, Ohio, or Pennsylvania. Not an automatic, but doable.

I dont think that one counts considering how unelectable she was.  GOP primary voters threw that one away

I just wanted to remind everyone of Christine O'Donnell. Tongue

To add more drama, there are now some reports that Bayh is interested in running for Governor instead. I imagine Gregg wouldn't want to go quietly - Bayh would be a huge favorite for governor, but Gregg is still in pretty good shape. I doubt this actually happens, though I wouldn't rule anything out at this point.

I thought noon today was the deadline?
