In the wake of Bayh's entry the DSCC is looking to put another red state seat into play.

Orman reportedly considered the race earlier in the cycle, even spending some money on polling, but decided against it. KS Dems would have to push their current candidate aside like in 2014, and Orman would have to submit signatures before August 1st.

Jerry Moran is stronger than Pat Roberts, but Orman would have a better electorate and Trump's unpopularity to run on. He'd be a longshot, but it'd be an interesting race for sure.

Nah, Moran would win easily. He's much more competent than the DC Fossil. Kansas should be ashamed for not electing Gregory the Gallant while they had the chance.

No democrat is going to win in one of the worst states of the US. Ibmean, Brownback literally destroyed this state and they still reelected him.

A state being bad (which KS isn't...?) stops a Democrat from winning there?

Jesus Christ, I'm glad I don't hang out with people like this IRL...

True. But the Dems should still put strong candidates in every state, whether or not the DCCC, DNC, or other Dem fundraising groups decide to enter. Still, I wonder if it's better for Orman or other promising candidates in Kansas to wait until Brownback's term is up.

I want to say Dems should recruit him to run in KS-2 or KS-3, but even those seats probably won't be competitive for some time.

Moran's approval ratings are very low per the last two Morning Consult national poll of U.S Senators.

Pat Roberts was the incumbent to beat if this was going to happen.....man if only Moran and Roberts switched elections somehow.

It would be hilarious to have a liberal like Orman elected Senator in Kansas

Slight mistake on my part above.  Morning Consult has done two national polls on governors and one national poll on U.S Senators in the last 8 months or so.

This is the response of Kansans to Jerry Moran based on their poll conducted January 8 to April 17:
Approve: 41%
Disapprove: 31%
Don't know/won't say: 28%

A margin of error of 4%

This is the response to Pat Roberts:
Approve: 40%
Disapprove: 42%

OMG I seriously didn't think of that. Regardless, this is Moran's race to lose. Orman would look terrible if he did jump in this late. At least in 2014 (IIRC) he was in it from the beginning, and got lucky when the Democrat dropped out.

"No Democrat is going to win in one of the worst states in the US."

Democrats win in "bad states" all the time.  Utah is a gorgeous state that is governed well and solid red.  There isn't this correlation between a state being "good" (what does this even mean?  Is Michigan a "good" state??  Haha) and a Democrat having a better chance of winning there like you seem to insinuate.

If Democrats couldn't topple Brownback, Moran is definitely safe. KS-03 would've been a better race to invest in.

Pfft Kansas hasn't elected a Democrat since the New Deal to the Senate, and with someone as harmless as Moran, it's not happening now, why waste someone like Orman now, when they can wait to 2020 with him and hope he topples Roberts with the same favorable electorate now that wasn't there in 2014?

It'd be pretty hilarious if the Dems burn out their Kansas ace-in-the-hole against Moran.

Presumably a metaphor for how the two parties are really the same thing.

Moran is extremely popular and honestly, Roberts running with Brownback was probably more of a liability than Moran running with Trump. Moran has been running a very aggressive campaign this summer - him losing is just not in the cards. There is no built-up anger with him like there was with Roberts - nothing really to hit him on.

Orman's internals probably showed this, which is why he initially decided not to run. Moran would win by 15 points, minimum.
