Prior to the Pence selection I thought Trump might be able to get into the high 20s with the LGBT vote.  Post Pence, low 20s is more like it.

He is the most pro-gay candidate in history, so he should do well. Unfortunately,

He won't crack 20%, especially with a pick like Pence.

Yes, this is a very, very stupid voting block - nearly as bad as Iowa itself.

Wow. The two of you truly carry sucky opinions.

Look - Crooked Hillary Clinton is a raging homophobe for 50 years, and then she goes into the bathroom for a couple hours and comes out a progressive LGBT hero. And the people of the LGBT community believe her. Give me a break. Give me a break. Give me a break. It doesn't happen that way.

She wasn't a homophobe? Like all mainstream Democratic politicians in the 90s/00s, she supported gay rights in every issue besides marriage, the latter of which was for political expediency.

Compare that to Trump more than a decade earlier...
Lot of posturing going on this election, but I know who Trump really is, and he has done so much for me. I could never repay him for it as long as I lived.

What the heck has Trump done for anyone besides himself? Especially something worthy of the words you write?

Trump is the most socially liberal Republican candidate, he'll probably do better than Romney.

31-40%

Trump, as President, is not going to go on a social crusade a la Santorum.

This was June, 1999.  People can change in sixteen years, of course.

The rampant delusion in this thread is awesome sauce.

It seems to be working on the premiss that everyone is a single issue voter, with that issue all depending 100% on what they identify as. Though they are rare, there is a thing called Log Cabin Republicans, folks who've been voting R for ages for reasons other than their sexual preferences and trying to work within their party to make it more accpeting of them as they agree with the Republican party on most other things. Similarly, there are lots of D leaning gay people lean D not only because the Democratic party tends to be less hostile to them, that they find solidarity in the Democrats tend along side other oppressed minority groups, but also because they like the economic messages of the dems too.

Single issue voters exist. But they're hardly the entirety of any demographic.

As such, speculation at all like this seems a bit strange sans actual analysis of where the candidates stand on the full spectrum of issues and how the specific demographic in question leans or breaks down on the issues.

Sometimes I wonder why I even come by the forums here. Never seem to find any good talk in this folder.
