Yes, but national violent crime statistics show the rate is low and not rising. Those are pockets and they're troubling but not indicative of the nation.

Why make the speech about crime? How is going hard on crime going to win over swing voters when it's at a historic low??

He's speaking to the GOP base, who believes that crime has gone up, unemployment up, deportations down, and the stock market down under Obama even though the opposite is true. They live in an alternate reality.

Again, it's the same logic as those who think it snowing one day means climate change isn't real. Weather is isolated day to day and climate the trend.

Absolutely wonderful speech. Trump is delivering with excellence.

It's a vile, hate-filled and dangerous speech. Devoid of anything except fear and playing to the most base and backward nature of people.

Sadly, and scarily, I think this speech is *good* in the sense that I can see it earning him support.

Maybe, but in many ways its way to dark. There is no positive aspects to this.

I don't see this doing much beyond pulling in some wavering GOP support from undecideds.

Overall, that was relatively strong and a surprisingly normal speech for him.  It was also about the most economically left wing he has ever gone so far.  Long speech, but I don't think Trump hurt himself tonight.

Nor do I think he especially helped himself either.
