Opinion of US Presidents Series: George Washington through James Monroe

It's time for another "opinion of presidents series" but I'm doing 5 presidents at a time.  72 hours for each poll.

Washington and Madison are definite FFs, Monroe is FF except for, you know, fighting Madison and establishing a doctrine the most of the next twenty presidents cited, mostly incorrectly. Adams is tilt HP, while Jefferson is both. I voted FF for the first, third, and fourth Presidents and HP for the other two.

Madison (his near-genocidal Indian removal policy, and he so lucked out in the disastrous war of 1812)

(they should have done more for "internal improvements" aka infrastructure, and of course there's slavery but that's a burden shared by just about all before 1860)

I take it 6 people think that owning slaves automatically makes an HP. That's the only reason to vote HP for Washington, and even that's not the best one.

While approving of his civil rights initiatives, something tells me you would have been raving about how Grant was a corporatist had you been around.

The War of 1812 was a mistake, but that does not change the contributions Madison made to the Constitution.  I like that his thinking combined the better parts of Hamilton and Jefferson--he was not a staunch anti-democrat like the former, but he had a more practical mind than the latter.
