Watching Morning Joe today and Joe and some others were pushing the theory that Trump is a genius and this is all part of an elaborate plan. Trump letting the Melania story fester was on purpose to create more buzz. Putting Cruz out there to not endorse was all to help unify the party with hate for Cruz and sympathy for Trump. It was all based on the notion that any press is good press.

Not sure I buy that theory. Others in the show, notably Halperin and Heilemann weren't buying it. Although Halperin pushed the 'Trump can turn it all around with a good speech and that is all anyone will remember' line.

I don't buy the Trump is a genius part, but I do think his actions are often best explained by the notion that any press is good press.  Unfortunately for him, that's not a good strategy for a political convention.  Messaging matters, and the plagiarism and Cruz non-endorsement distracted from it.

It does make tonight's Trump speech must-see-TV.  And a good speech can easily save the convention.

Only the post convention ratings bounce, or lack of a bounce will tell.

It's been entertaining and great TV. Is it politically helpful to the GOP? Who knows...

"Trump is playing 4d chess" is probably the most tired analysis of this general election.

I mean, our Vice Preaidential nomination didn't see write-ins for Mao, Archie Bunker, Roger Mudd, or Melania Trump so there's that. Was the RNC great? No. Will it produce a bounce? Only a small one that will be wiped away by the DNC bounce. A complete disaster? Nah.

Yes, it has been a disaster.
And Atlas members like Ljube and Seriously know this to be true, but just can't face the facts and admit to it.
We will see if tonight's speech by Mr orange-hair himself, can bring it back to an even/neutral position, at most.

The irony is almost painful:

This whole thread is another proof of the Dem hackery on this site.

I'm still struggling to understand if he's just an ultra-dedicated troll or has an extreme case of tunnel vision when it comes to politicians he likes.
