Note them here.

One of my favourites is, as a Brit, hearing American politicians talking of the need to "stand up for the middle-class".

Another is when leftie Americans emphasize their desire to see "investment in the nation's public schools".

Various left-wing French politicians' views on Islamic issues fit in here too.

"Social issues" in France means the opposite of what it means in the US.

Really? do (you) actually have to mock someone for not knowing obscure facts about a foreign country?

The class thing just shows the differences of ideas of social class between America and Britain: not only is it much more important in the latter but there's a much stronger "working class" in the UK that doesn't really exist in the US.  You'll here talk of "middle England" and other things but generally they are only used by commentators and not so much by the parties anymore; because a fair few people in that middle don't identify as middle class but still see themselves as working class.  The word that's used seems to be "working people" or similar things, which is admittedly also used in America alongside the silly use of "middle class".

In the UK a "public school" is a place like Eton or Harrow which are very elitist and expensive fee-paying schools; schools ran by the government are called state schools mostly.  But not all private schools in the UK are called public schools: I think that there's a class-based element in that only the really posh ones get called public schools - although this could just be a Scottish thing, I dunno.

I've always found the middle class thing as funny: but the one that especially gets me is the use of "Liberal" to mean "left" in America.  I mean I understand the history behind it, but I just that its quite funny to hear it used in that way.

Saw some survey saying this is the most 'middle class' object in the UK Tongue
