The never-ending Atlas demographic survey continues with inspiration coming from a May YouGov poll that has remained on my mind for quite some time.

0=Completely Masculine
3=(Presumably equal parts of each)
6=Completely Feminine

Don't destroy the survey by biasing yourself from looking at the accompanying article first! Tongue [I did rate myself before looking at the results, which is probably a big part of why this has stayed on my mind.]

I am a bit curious - I suspect Atlas is far more British-like than American, but I will do it by age rather than region.

2, I guess. I don't really know how you're supposed to quantify this. I'll just add a point for my music taste and a point for liking d1ck.

I rated myself a 2, then looked at the article and saw that this apparently makes me quite normal.

I dunno. I am a real tomboy in some ways but really feminine in others. So, 4.5 maybe?

I guess a 2. I consider myself pretty average. Definitely lean towards the more masculine side, but not overwhelmingly so.

I said 2, but after reading the responses it seems like I probably should have said 3.

Although I pretty firmly reject the dichotomy and premise of "masculine/feminine."

Yeah, I thought this was a very odd system, that's why I wanted to see how people interpret this. I felt like I was doing it wong, but there's no real right way.

Oh, but there is a severely wrong way, and that's using decimals and ranges, meaning I should never have asked this place, haha.

Is this poll about personal perception of gender, or is about secondary sexual characteristics such as beard, body hair or hip width? I mean, such things are not necessarily related with the place where a person perceives him or herself on the masculine/feminine continuum. There is little hair in my chest, but I believe this fact affects little to how masculine or feminine I think I am.

Well, what is the exact difference between a 1 and a 2? How the hell am I supposed to know which I am? Maybe we need a masculinity-femininity matrix/chart/compass. Wink

I have a burning, visceral hatred of what is commonly understood as masculinity. I shouldn't elaborate too much since I know this will be used as comedy material by the perpetual teenagers on this and the other forum, but whatever. I'd be happy to give any contribution I can to the complete destruction and annihilation of masculinity in every sphere of society.

That said, I can't say have any particularly feminine trait either. I don't think insecurity and emotional dependence should be understood as "feminine" just because the opposite extremes are typically "masculine". I have also become increasingly emotionally expressive in recent years, but it might just be the influence of Californian culture.

So yeah, the dichotomy makes no sense. Voted 3.

I think male homosexuality, though pairing up with a likeminded partner is one of the most 'masculine' things anyone can do. Whether or not one or both have 'masculine' or 'feminine' traits is nothing more than window dressing. But the act is incredibly masculine. I suppose I take a classicist position on this.

That is, at least, not the prevailing conception of masculinity in post-19th century Western society - and as such isn't what I was attacking, in the case that wasn't obvious.
