a federal judge just gutted their voter ID law.

It'll remain on the books but is effectively unenforceable now.

Sweet, the DNC outreach program of smokes for votes remains alive and well in Wisconsin!

Same-day registration with no ID. What could possibly go wrong?

Sorry your party's attempt at voter disenfranchisement didn't work out.

Uh, nothing? As has been the case in all the Wisconsin elections with same-day registration.

Yeah, because using an ID to vote is such an onerous requirement in 2016 where you have to use an ID to buy cigarettes (which Dems can, in turn, give away to induce people to vote), buy alcohol, sign any legal documents, go to the movies, get into a bar, fly, get a discount, open a bank account, etc., etc., etc.

1.Republicans can't do these things as well?

2.Good, if it's not a big deal then lets have the government issue vote card IDs to all people with the full cost paid for by the taxpayer.  After all, none of those things you listed are things that poor people can really afford.

I mean, if this isn't really about disenfranchising people and if some people say they can't afford some of the costs associated with getting an ID, then there really is no reason to oppose this.

Voting, after all, is a Constitutionally protected right.

I'm pretty sure that they proof you in order to get into an R-rated movie if you are a teenager nowadays.

You can also add to that list, purchasing items in some stores via credit card require IDs, at the discretion of the shop owner.

1) Of course Republicans can and have been accused of similar tactics. It was subs for votes with Romney.
2) I am pretty sure most states have a low or no cost ID for poor people, who ironically need to show ID when they apply for or renew their welfare benefits...

But then again, I digress.

I would certainly expect renting an old game from a video game system that has been discontinued for nearly 20 years to be a more difficult task than voting, yes.

Voter ID is not particularly challenging to obtain. All it takes is a little bit of time that pretty much every adult will have to do anyways.

Sheesh, I've had mine since I was 16. Was a bit of work then, but since, not very much.

I'm all against Republican voter suppression tactics, but why wouldn't you require ID? Do you have some sort of vote certificate? Because that's what we have in Sweden, as I recall.

America doesnt have National ID cards, so a large portion of society doesn't have Photographic ID like passports or driving licences.

If the GOP is really worried about voter fraud, could they use phosphorus ink?

'Large portion of society?'

There are over 240 million Americans with a valid driver's license. Only 185 million Americans voted. This is a complete non-issue. And I'm not even counting other forms of valid picture ID.

Actually, the UK does. Registration requires you to provide your national insurance number.

Again - America is the only western nation that does not require photo ID when voting.

Sure. And the fact that states like Alabama and Texas have disporoprtionately closed DMV's in areas where Democrats live is a complete coincidence, right? The fact that the non-ID possessing portion of societyis disproportionately of demographics that lean left also is a complete freaky happenstance I'm assuming?

Your other point is nonsense, seeing as the aim of voting laws should be to expand suffrage to ensure more people vote in the first place...

I live in the UK, and have never been asked to show ID when voting. Please don't pretend to know about countries you don't live in, when by all indication you barely understand the country you do reside in.

As for the issue these laws are devised to combat, voter fraud, well you said it best:

So if you don't require ID then how does it work?

In Sweden all citizens above 18 get a mail with their "vote card" and you bring that to the booth on polling day (that's what I recall at least).

Not sure about other states but before the ID law you walked in said you were so and so and verify your address, signed the voting book and voted. It almost never happened but all you really had to do was get to the polling place before someone else and claim to be them and you'd be good.'

There's nothing wrong with ID laws. There should just be a way that everyone who doesn't have one can get a free voting photo ID.
