Considering the odds of ____ winning this year
The odds of the opposition winning the primary in 2020.
The odds of that person beating the incumbent (or losing to the incumbent).

Who is most likely?

I'm thinking Cruz actually.

Paul Ryan or Nikki Haley.

Cruz can't win a national election. His ceiling is well under 50 percent.

Honestly, it's clear that everything Sasse is doing is building up to a 2020 run, he seems like the most electable Republican, and it seems likely that Clinton will win this election, but will not be favored in 2020. So Sasse, I suppose.

I would say that the President is likely to be a Republican, but because there are so many Republicans the President is most likely to be Clinton.

I would say that the most likely Republican, though, is probably Ryan.

Clinton is definitely the favorite. If the GOP gets back in the White House at all it won't be for another several cycles (2024 at the earliest, possibly as late as 2032).

Do you really think that the G.O.P is incompetent enough to not be able to stop the reelection of one of the most disliked candidates in American history?
Clinton's approval ratings have changed a lot through the years. Her approvals were mixed during the 2008 election. Then from the time Clinton was SoS to before she ran for president, she was one of America's most liked politicians, even though all of her supposed faults were already known by then. It's too early to predict what Clinton's approval rating would be into a hypothetical term as president.

Possibly, the GOP might not even be competent enough to stop the election of one of the most disliked candidates in history, much less the reelection.

I think if the GOP cannot win back the White House in 2020 or 2024, they will probably dissolve and a new party will be founded as a home for conservatives (unless a chunk of Republicans defect en masse to the Libertarians).
