As you all know, I was the one of the first Cruz supporters active on Atlas, supporting Ted. I have always stood by him, but tonight he was horrible. He broke his word. I hope he doesn't run again, as he is a disgrace, but I will support him in 2018.

Great Trump reaction!  This is why Trump is Trump.  I wish we could see how Trump would have handled that Lloyd Bentsen debate line from 1988 that he used against Dan Quayle "You're no Jack Kennedy".  Quayle got hurt badly.  Trump would have rammed that comment right down Bentsen's throat and made Bentsen his b**** in the process.

Did you guys literally only watch the speech highlites? Shame Atlas, shame. The rest of it was the same race-baiting, non-factual BS as everyone else's.

And here was Clinton's response to Cruz's speech (or maybe just a totally unrelated tweet made after he finished):

An ego driven and self-serving speech

This.

He is a selfish POS. If he doesn't want to endorse, then stay at home.

Will hurt Cruz in 2020 big time.   Matter of fact Mike Pence is probably the odds favorite right now going into 2020 primaries.  Of course things can change in 4 years just my 3 cents.

Great speech, my respect for him grew a little bit. He did it for his political future, but he has stubborn conviction and didn't fall in line like a little submissive weakling which is something that's worth acknowledgment and respect for, in my view.

Agreed. If Hillary wins especially, Pence comes off far more favorably as someone who did his best to prevent her election, as opposed to Cruz, who in the view of many hard liners, put the country behind his own selfish gain. And those would be his primary base of support.

He won't get to monopolize the social conservative bloc again, not with people like Cotton and others possibly running and Pence was leading the fight for tea party causes against the Bush era GOP, when Cruz was still a Bush hack.

Freedom Speech.

I'm certainly no supporter of Cruz, but the man has guts.

Guts? The guy is just looking ahead to 2020. He doesn't give a crap about anyone but himself. Perfectly legitimate of course but let's not turn him into another Mandela just because he's setting himself up for the next presidential race.

Amazing. I disagree with Cruz on many issues and wouldn't be voting for him if he was the nominee, but  on the "vote your conscience" line, we are in perfect agreement. I am a registered republican (for caucusing purposes), but that does not mean I have to vote that way. Following your conscience makes sense, following your party is being a senseless marcobot. And that's why my ballot will be cast for either Hillary Clinton or Gary Johnson and not for Donald Trump.

With Minnesota transitioning to an open primary in 2020, will you become an independent?

Minnesota is already an open primary for all other offices and has no party registration whatsoever. You can't officially "become" an independent, Republican or Democrat here.

Utterly hypocritical, but very well-delivered. Basically his campaign launch for 2020 or 2024.

Though the chances of him facing a serious primary challenge in Texas in 2018 must have risen.

I still think many people are underrating the possibility that few people will still care about who did or didn't support Donald Trump by the time that Cruz faces reelection in 2018, let alone by the time of the 2020 presidential primaries.

Would you say the same if Jim Webb were to speak before the Democratic National Convention and tells the delegates to "vote their consciences"?

I hate him more than any republican and my lifelong Texas conservative grandmother hates him as much as Hillary.

That being said, big ups to him for being the only politician with balls this week.
