CNN probably polled the RNC audience in the building to get that number

Hmmm... does this always happen with convention speeches, or is this an anomalous level of support?

Chill. These are a combination of Republicans and Indies. I wouldn't get too excited.

Plus any crowd that 60% of them with a view that Trump would be a good thing for the country to begin with isn't exactly a difficult bunch to win over.

Did they do a partisan breakdown? You'd think the audience would skew Republican for starters.

Luntz's focus group had about 6 of the 20 or so "undecided" move toward Trump. None moved toward Hilliary! The vast majority remained undecided. The rest would vote for someone else.

They gave a caveat that the sample was biased toward republicans, simply because Trump is a republican and therefore more right wingers than left wingers would watch the speech.

It was undecided Republicans, and even then 25% didn't view the speech favorably. That seems to be around the same level of non-support he is getting from Republicans in most polls.

No. It was speechwatchers of all political stripes.  Of course, for the RNC, this is going to skew Republican.  You'll have a pro-Democrat sample for the DNC.

Full results:
CNN/ORC Poll of Trump Speech Watchers

Overall Reaction to Trump's Speech
Very Positive 57%
Somewhat Positive 18%
Negative Effect 24%

In what direction will the policies proposed by Trump move the country?
Right Direction 73%  (was 60% pre-speech)
Wrong Direction 24%

How did Trump's speech affect your vote?
More Likely 56%
Less Likely 10%
Not Much Effect 32%

no, CNN said its a sample that 60% thought Trump would put America on the right track before the speech, so its quite a GOP heavy sample.  It was 73% after the speech a swing, but nothing suprising.

Also the fact its in Ohio is interesting since the speech was geared at the rust belt

Of course there's going to be a skew to the right. I won't be watching a minute of the DNC sh**t show next week. I assume most Democrats (not on this forum), have limited interest in the RNC as well.

I will block you. Its not funny, if you have a freak out anytime something positive happens to the opponent then you really should find a new hobby. That goes for everyone.

Fact, before this speech 60% of this sample liked Trumps vision for the country. He only won over 14% tonight as far as I can tell.

I fully expect to see this forum go crazy, though.
That's a prediction those on both sides of the aisle can agree with....

In a micro scale, it will be a mass freakout.
In a macro scale, it's just the fluidity of what a normal Presidential campaign looks like historically.

But nevertheless, the Atlas freakout will be YUUUUGE!

GOPTarheel on RRHElections says the partisan breakdown of the poll was 41% Republicans, 23% Democrats, 36% Independents.  I still can't find a working link to the poll.

Definitely. I don't know how many posters here were around for 2012, but there was a full meltdown on Atlas after Obama's first debate debacle 4 years ago. In hindsight it's funny, but back then *shivers.

That would be a justified meltdown though. The debate was a month before the election, and was a total implosion for Obama. Convention bounces months before the election are expected and totally normal.
