It's very obvious. He's a safe, solid, conventional choice. Do no harm.

Well, that was almost as inevitable as Hillary's nomination.

As I said in the other thread, this is a terrible pick and I don't know how I'm going to vote this November now.

Gotta have serious doubts over Clinton's judgement here, not only in picking someone too close to the center but also putting an otherwise safe senate seat at risk.

No real surprise but a smart pick nonetheless.

I've been saying Clinton/Kaine since November 2014, lol. Before that I thought Clinton/Warner. Tongue

*snores* Huh? Sorry, I must've dozed off when I heard Kaine's name.

Anyway, this pick isn't particularly exciting or unexpected, but she clearly wants to play it safe. It could be worse, she could've picked Castro.

Despite earlier misgivings, I'm fine with the pick. His record is undoubtedly good and he seems like a decent human being.

I'm guessing that once she confirmed that the GOP was committed to going into November as a firestorm at a toxic waste dump, she felt free to target "moderate" Republicans, knowing the left would have to vote for her anyway. She's right.

Why? It's not like you'll be seeing a lot of him or hearing him much as opposed to Hillary. In all my years, who the VP is has never been much of an issue with me. Except for the Dan Quayle years. He was an embarrassment, but Kaine certainly is smart, articulate, loyal and a decent human being.

I don't know. He has experience reaching out to people who like those annoying "on the issues" memes:

He's pro-TPP.  He favors one of the first things Hillary would renege on.

I don't live in a deciding state anyway, so I can vote my conscience.

My God. You'll damn well vote for Hillary Clinton, because she's offering a positive and progressive vision for the country, and because she's committed her whole f-cking life to fighting for people who otherwise find themselves down and out. That's how you'll vote.

Tim Kaine is boring, lacks energy, and decidedly does nothing to shake up the race. Boo-hoo. It's not the strategic pick I would have made. But it doesn't change anything at all, and if it's enough to make you throw away your vote, you can't have been much of a progressive to begin with--instead it shows that you're actually just an egoist in progressive's clothing. And that's a sad, sad thing.

My girlfriend put it perfectly, Tim Kaine is unsalted butter to Hillary's Wonder Bread.

That said, the only other comment I have from the other thread is that if what Zeleny said is true and the campaign seriously thinks Tim Kaine is what the future of the Democratic Party looks like, I'm seriously wondering where the campaign's been the past two years.
