As I said in the other thread, this is a terrible pick and I don't know how I'm going to vote this November now.

Why? It's not like you'll be seeing a lot of him or hearing him much as opposed to Hillary. In all my years, who the VP is has never been much of an issue with me. Except for the Dan Quayle years. He was an embarrassment, but Kaine certainly is smart, articulate, loyal and a decent human being.

He's pro-TPP.  He favors one of the first things Hillary would renege on.

I don't live in a deciding state anyway, so I can vote my conscience.

Quit whining. Come November, you'll be voting for Hillary and everyone knows it.

GOP was committed to going into November as a firestorm at a toxic waste dump

I got a good laugh at this line on an otherwise disappointing day.

Horrible. But what else would one expect? She decided on Kaine 8 years ago.

His profile says he's from Virginia Beach -not that it makes his post make any more sense..  Tongue

at least there's this:

Kyle Kondik
‏@kkondik
With Kaine as the VP pick, Crystal Ball moves Virginia Electoral College rating from Leans D to Likely D. Explanation to come

Not the most exciting pick but I'm open to hearing his speech on Wed and I like his background of mission work in Honduras.

My girlfriend put it perfectly, Tim Kaine is unsalted butter to Hillary's Wonder Bread.

That said, the only other comment I have from the other thread is that if what Zeleny said is true and the campaign seriously thinks Tim Kaine is what the future of the Democratic Party looks like, I'm seriously wondering where the campaign's been the past two years.

He's a white male. You need a white male if a minority will be on the Democratic Party ticket in the 2020s. You can't have an all black or all Latino Democratic ticket.

As to the veep pick, I am satisfied with it.  Not thrilled, but I can certainly live with a Vice-President Tim Kaine far better than with Julian Castro in the same role.

It really doesn't matter who the VP is as far as political beliefs go - no matter who it is, he or she must get behind in the president. The very idea that someone could be planning to vote Hillary until this announcement is absurd.

If Hillary trusts Kaine to be one of her closest advisers, that's good enough for me.

You never know. If Trump finds special appeal in the Rust Belt, Hillary could try to make a play for NC and still win.

It's literally the 4th most likely to be a tipping point state in 538.

Edit: Also, Kaine hasn't said how he'll vote on the TPP; he says he has concerns about the dispute resolution mechanism.

The best thing about Kaine is that he supports TPP.

If that's true, please provide a link, because that's what's keeping me from embracing Kaine for anything right now.

Well, that was almost as inevitable as Hillary's nomination.

I've been saying Clinton/Kaine since November 2014, lol. Before that I thought Clinton/Warner. Tongue

IceSpear flashback:

Why pick Kaine when you have Warner who is better in every way?

He's not a good choice. But he isn't a bad one, either. Anybody voting against Clinton because of this needs to grow up.

That's good. Hopefully we can officially establish that Democrat = free trade and Republican = protectionism once and for all.

Kaine and Unable

Safe pick. Boring pick. But let's face it. No one is really going to care who the VP is in this clash.

The fact is though, this has likely cost her votes (and may very well cost Democrats the senate given how off-year special elections tend to go.)
