This ticket will seriously challenge Trump (and Johnson) for centrist voters. Kaine is a solid substitute for Clinton and someone who will bolster her flank. He will pretty much assure that VA is in the Clinton column in November and make Trump's climb even harder.

On the negative side, this will hurt Hillary's already sore image with Sanders supporters and Kaine is not a telegenic pick (but since his counterpart is Pence, it doesn't really hurt).

All out, I would say this was the best choice Hillary could have made and it will help her.

From a moral and ethical side, anyone who sacrificed a portion of their life to help others (i.e. Kaine's missionary work) has to have some good human qualities.
