I was having a discussion with a friend today who claimed that Kaine will do well among Rust Belt white males. I offered the counterpoint that:
1. He supports TPP.
2. Kaine underperformed in working class white parts of VA compared to Warner and Webb.
3. He isn't a very exciting candidate.

No, he doesn't. He just projects stability and competence, and that will help the ticket among moderate college educated independents and perhaps Republicans living in the suburbs.

No.  Hillary should have picked Stone Cold Steve Austin instead; that was the only way to garner increased support among WCWs.

I don't think he really appeals to anyone. He's the epitome of an empty suit.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Kaine appeals to Very Nondescript People, certain types of Catholic Millennials, and could possibly help with certain Hispanic sub-demographics.

Does Kaine appeal to working-class whites? I can say firsthand that the answer is no.

Too soon to say, but I doubt it.  His style will play well in the Midwest though, especially when contrasted with that of Trump.

As much as Ben Carson appeals to blacks, and Sarah Palin to women.

Unfortunately a lot of this is because he is Catholic. When he ran for governor in 2005, for some reason that was like the only real issue because apparently the Pope was gonna tell him to stop executing people with forest gump IQs.
