because of early voting and postal ballots:

https://www.usvotefoundation.org/vote/state-elections/state-election-dates-deadlines.htm

Looks like GA voters can already request a postal ballot on September 20.

Early voting in MI and MN for example already starts Sept. 23 and 24.

I think the early vote is going to be a huge advantage for Clinton. Remember how well she was able to bank votes against Sanders in the primary. Does anyone think that Trump is going to be able to come up with a good enough organization in two months to combat that?

Here is a map of the early-voting rules:

Green: Early Voting
Blue: Absentee Only Early Voting (Requirements vary by state, some strict while others are are essentailly the same as early voting)
Red: No Early Voting

OR and WA have all-mail voting, no ?

So, that is some form of early voting too.

I forgot to make that distinction on my map key.

Maybe yellow, for CO/OR/WA.

There seems to be some confusion:

The link I posted above says that MI, KY and SC have early voting.

But the NCSL page says they do not:

http://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/absentee-and-early-voting.aspx

On the other hand, NJ seems to have some sort of early voting.

I'm pretty positive that MA doesn't have early voting. I know we have absentee voting but, unless I'm wrong we don't have early voting.

This is a relatively new development.

Gov. Patrick signed the early voting law in 2014, but it will take effect starting with the 2016 General election:

Clinton will also have an advantage in battleground states with same-day voter reg due to superior organization

Early voting, same-day registration and/or all-mail voting doesn't necessarily mean that the D candidate is always favoured: see CO in 2014 when Udall lost and CO had all these goodies in place. If the political climate is not there, these things do not help either.

It could've been why he only lost by 2 points rather than the 5-10 points he "should" have lost by after running an abysmal campaign against a very strong opponent in the midst of a huge wave.
