Longtime liberal San Francisco congresswoman and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has been the House Democratic Leader since 2002. She is expected to retire from office by 2020 at least. With once-future successor Maryland congressman Chris Van Hollen running for the Senate Who will be the next House Democratic Leader, once Pelosi retires? Steny Hoyer? James Clyburn? Ruben Gallego? Xavier Becerra?

Becerra would be my bet. Hoyer will never be leader.

You're probably right on Hoyer. He may retire by 2020 like Pelosi. What about Clyburn?

He's 76, so he's really getting up in age as well.

Xavier Becerra or Joseph Crowley I suppose.     Although honestly they might want to keep the leadership position in the Bay Area to keep the Silicon money coming in.

Come to think of it - The Democrats have their four leadership positions split among the "big four" metro areas:

Pelosi - San Fran Area
Hoyer - DC Metro (sorta)
Becerra - LA
Crowley - NYC

Besides Becerra, isn't Ben Ray Lujan pretty high ranking considering how little time he has been in Congress?

Pelosi won't retire until Hoyer does, so it won't be him.

So she'll probably be around until 2020...

I imagine it'll be Becerra, unless he decides to try his luck in a 2018 Senate primary. It could also be Hoyer or Clyburn if e.g. health problems force Pelosi to step down.

Crowley - NYC

The Chicago metro area is significantly larger than the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose metro area.

Chicago is the third biggest metro in the country yet not part of the big four?  LOL

Nope, there's a lot more money to be found in the four listed than in Chicago.

It's all about cash flow (sadly...).   That's why Pelosi got the leadership position,  her ability to fundraise.

Honestly, I think part of why Chicago isn't represented in leadership in the house is because all the Chicago Houses are 1.) either corrupt 2.) have replaced corrupt pols and don't have enough prestige to get into leadership yet.
