The question isn't whether or not America is socialist, it's how much socialism exists in our country. Everything I mentioned is an example of socialism, and only don't tend to be considered socialist because we're used to them.

You can't pick and choose like that, economics isn't al a carte. If you pay tax dollars that are in turn used for services, that is socialism. When everyone pays a share, then it's socialism.

There hasn't ever been a government completely free of socialism. As I said, we have a mixed economy, which means that elements of socialism are there.

They demonstrate nothing, save a total inability on your part to do any actual, independent research into the subject. You permit know-nothing sources to provide information to you and have absolutely no demonstrable evidence to which you could point as proof for your claims. Have you ever read the works of any noted Marxist or Socialist theorists? Ever picked up a book by Marx, Engels, Lukacs, Adorno, Marcuse, Debord, Luxembourg, or Zizek? I am quite comfortable assuming the answer is no and that your response will be something like, "I don't need to because Socialism was tried in Russia, China, Venezuela, Cuba, etc... and led to mass murder and economic decay." All typical, largely baseless responses that merely address the actions of those who acted in the name of Marx. Any person pursuing power can do anything in the name of anyone - does that make it so?

Anyway, sorry, my fellow posters, for the off-topic reply. I loved Bernie's speech though and am so proud that he has fully endorsed Sec. Clinton. That is a definition you yourself invented. In the same spirit of individual definitional innovation I suggest another defintion: urinating is socialism. If you ever urinated in your life, you are a socialist.  You cannot pick and choose here: this is not a la carte.
