And if he somehow made the runoff with Foster Campbell (unlikely), I do not think you'd be so anxious to reject Duke.

It seems like there is a general tendency in political discourse to accept black churches explicitly endorsing candidates where it would not be in other churches.  Perhaps because they generally support Democrats and those most eager to strip churches of their tax exempt status tend to be liberals.  But in any case it comes across as a bit patronizing, like "you're not a real church so it's okay."

Black churches have been politically active for decades.

Yes, but they skirt the lines. They have "souls to the polls" and focus on turnout but never really say who they are turning out for, and several pastors at AME Churches will often oppose a candidate from the pulpit without endorsing someone else outright or naming said opponent.

There's a very easy loophole to allow churches to endorse candidates without losing their tax exempt status: Just make it very blatantly obvious who they are referring to but don't mention them by name. Mine is exploiting this to a T to attack Trump almost weekly.
