No candidate won a majority of the vote in the first round of the 1901 presidential election, prompting a runoff between the two top finishers. Senator Manuel Mendez of Nuevo Leon, who won a narrow plurality on the first ballot, now faces incumbent President Charles MacDonald in the final round.

President Charles Edward MacDonald of Niagara [ASWI]
Four years wiser after harrowing battles against the conservative forces in Congress, MacDonald's platform is an updated version of the one he campaigned on in 1900. Unshaken by his legislative defeats, he has put forward a series of audacious proposals designed to grab the attention of the press: nationalization of the oil, coal, and steel industries, national health insurance, national unemployment insurance, new health regulations for food producers, and a strong protective tariff. He stands firm in his opposition to the gold standard, but has suggested a significant increase of interest rates in an effort to combat inflation.

Senator Manuel Méndez of Nuevo Leon [Concordite]
Few in the capital can claim to rival the power and forcefulness of Manuel Mendez, whose strength as a debater and unmatched skill as a politician have made him the MacDonald Administration's most formidable enemy. Having served eight years as the governor of Nuevo Leon before joining the Senate in 1888, Mendez has been likened to the late President Juan Alvarez, a comparison he has done his best to encourage. His platform consists of calls for free trade, fidelity to the gold standard, a strong central bank, the repeal of the Silver Act, and blanket opposition to the policies of the MacDonald Administration.

The subtraction of my vote gives the election to Mendez.

Manuel Méndez [Concordite-Nuevo Leon]—37.5% General, 50.1% Runoff
Charles Edward MacDonald [ASWI-Niagara]—33.3% General, 49.9% Runoff
John Calhoun Bell [Democratic-Kansas]—25.0% General
John Burgess [American-New York]—4.2% General

Never before had Americans been so sharply divided by a presidential election as in 1904, and the fall campaign for control of La Maison Blanchet soon proved to be among the nastiest and most bitterly contested elections in the history of the Commonwealth. Four years after an unlikely turn of events had elevated his party to power, President Charles MacDonald began his reelection bid an embattled incumbent, struggling to contain rising inflation while maintaining the uneasy governing coalition that clung to a narrow majority in Congress. For all his efforts, MacDonald was unable to convince the electorate to return him to office; alarmed by rising prices and the perceived radicalism of the ASWI, the public turned instead to Senator Manuel Mendez, whose Concordite Party won a strong plurality in the Congress despite a spare popular vote victory. Thus, the tradition of Juan Alvarez was revived after twelve years of radical dominance in the capital, while the defeated Democrats and Socialists were left to ponder the cause of their downfall.

I refuse to accept these results! You'll have riots on your hands from New Orleans to Brooklyn if there isn't a recount! This is an insult to Democracy and the Republican model of governance. It is clear that the results of this election were concocted by the global elites trying to con the working man out a fair election. Sad!

Menendez is no Democrat, but I would gladly trade the socialist economy for the broken golden economy.

DOWN WITH THE ELITE. DOWN WITH THIS MANIPULATED RESULT BASED UPON THE DESIRES OF THE ELITE, ON THEIR HANDS OF WEALTH, POWER AND DESTRUCTION OF ONE'S IDENTITY.

ViVE LE REVOLUTION, RIOTS SHALL EMERGE, AND THIS NATION SHALL BREED A NEW DAWN OF WORKER'S NATIONALISM AND PATRIOTISM. WORKER'S AND FARMERS WILL DEMAND, THEY WILL STRIKE, CAPITALISTS BUILDINGS WILL BE DESTROYED, AND TRUE PATRIOTS SHALL EMERGE VICTORIOUS. FROM THE FARMLANDS TO THE CITIES OF NEW YORK, WE CALL UPON MCDONALD PATRIOTS, PATRIOTS WHO DEMAND THIS NATION CAN BE BETTER, TO RISE UP, REFUSE TO RECOGNIZE AND TAKE ACTION AGAINST THIS ILLEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT.

What utter nonsense! This election was won fair square by Mr. Méndez and decent, common sense Americans have rejected Marxism soundly!

Two things, not soundly. It was a tie. And what is "America", I only know of the great nation of Columbia.

1908!

Hopefully the Democrats get back in with Silver and hold it until it's not controversial. Then I'll probably start moving towards the Liberals/Concordites.

The working people of America will not stand for this injustice, we demand a recount be delivered to us peaceably, or we will take the Capitol forcefully. The elite in this country are standing atop a mound of tinder, and they refuse to come down from it. So if those pulling on the strings in this nation want to burned alive by the fire of this revolution, so be it.
