God bless.

Sadly, congressional support for TPP is now at an all time low and probably won't pass, so there is no real reason for her to support it anyway.

So McAuliffe flip flopped on whether Hillary would flip flop again after flip flopping on TPP. So?

I believe she will do the right thing.  Preferably though, the lame duck congress will push it through after the election and we won't have to worry about it.

If Trump loses, I think a lame duck Republican Congress will pass it.  Trumpism will (likely) be discredited in the party and they will be able to vote their conscious.

Congress would need balls of steel to do that when something like 95-98% of the country will be voting for a candidate who opposes it. I'm skeptical that it would work even in a lame duck.

Trumps anti-free trade message will be discredited once he loses.  Most of the Republican congressmen who would vote against it due to fear of Trump reprisal won't have to worry anymore.

Sherrod Brown was open to rewriting TPP on MSNBC but I think it's too late.

Yes.  The Republican delegation overwhelmingly supports it.  If there were a Republican POTUS instead of Obama, it'd likely be even more unanimous.

Ahhh. McAuliffe. I miss his lies as DNC chair. If anyone can spin and walk back, it's him.

Obviously they don't. But that's pretty big even for their standards.

This is impossible.  The U.S President can't simply unilaterally re-write TPP and call for the re-written treaty to be voted up or down.

It either passes or goes down as is.

Of course, President Hillary Clinton could try and get the members of the TPP negotiations to re-start the negotiations.

The Hillary campaign threw McAuliffe under the bus on this one. Hillary has assumed the mantle of the "protectionist lite" candidate in this election, and given her opponent, is not going to be walking that back, at least prior to election day.

I know it's semi-important for you to now believe that the Democrats can morph into a fiscally moderate party where you can feel politically at home (especially after defecting from the GOP), but keep dreamin'.  There's nothing "lite" about her protectionism, and any Democrat who wants to get the nomination in the near future is going to have to hold similar views, IMO.  This primary season made that obvious.  I'd argue there's a much higher chance of the next Republican nominee being for free trade than the next Democratic one.

This. TPP is dead.

Clinton's opposition to TPP is in line with her Congressional record, where she voted against free trade 69% of the time (would be 73% if you exclude her vote against the Cuba travel ban).

Another reason to make sure that Hillary Clinton is elected.

There can be no good Republican who does not vote Clinton this time.

We can assume McAuliffe has been escorted into the dungeon underneath the Wells Fargo Center, joining Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the most roudy Bernie delegates.

The worst kind of campaign blunders are those that reinforce negative perceptions of the candidate (see e.g. Romney). In this case it's Mrs. Says Anything To Get Elected.
