Why in God's name are students unionized?

Why shouldn't we be?

Because we shouldn't be in charge of the university? If a school has some insane policy, protest it, but a formal union is absolutely unnecessary. Thank God that tradition hasn't caught wind among this current generation of millennial students. I can only image the demands...

Er, the Union at my uni is quite benign. It focuses and campaigns on things like keeping down bus fare rates, having more library space, sustainable tuition fees etc.
