Yes, and I think he should. He's had his time in the light, but the libertarian party and the base has to be really disappointed this year, especially with decreasing poll numbers heading into the election.

There's no way in hell he gets the nomination again. Once in a lifetime chance, he blew it.

If 2020 comes around and the primary is Johnson vs. DW Perry, bet on Perry.

Probably. Hopefully he takes some time off to focus on his addiction and get clean.

No*.  *He probably won't run for president again but could seek smaller office? House rep for NM maybe?

If he runs yet again in 2020, he will just be the new Ralph Nader who doesn't know to quit while he's ahead.

I've heard there's some possibility of Johnson being appointed Ambassador to Freedonia after the election to help him improve his foreign policy skills.

Not sure if serious. Johnson is still very popular in the LP and could get the nomination again if he chooses. A poll of LP members showed him as the 2nd most popular politician next to Ron Paul. Who would beat him? The only possibilities I could think of who could be persuaded to run are Justin Amash and Andrew Napolitano, and I doubt either runs on the LP ticket in 2020.

Perry, meanwhile, appeals only to the smallish radical faction, and has basically said that he intends to sit out the 2020 race and will endorse Adam Kokesh.

All said, I doubt Johnson runs for President in 2020, and I think he has made it clear that he has no interest in being a congressman, so he's probably done with politics after 2016. It's looking like the LP race in 2020 will be Adam Kokesh vs. Austin Petersen unless we can get a bigger name.

Gary Johnson seems to have been done with politics before 2016.

He'll probably be done being a candidate himself, though I don't think he'll be done speaking out or anything.

He might be, but I could see him on the campaign trail with future candidates.  I really want Austin Petersen to make another attempt in 2020.

I'd hope he, Nicholas Sarwark, and William Weld found either a think tank or some outreach libertarian program to expand their party. Sarwark in particular seems like he might be able to do outreach to the NAACP with people like John Mond and the HRC.

I highly doubt it, since Austin Peterson could probably beat him by then. If William Weld was younger though he could be the one to actually bring the Libertarians to sustainable strength, imho.
