Nearly all were serving for nonviolent drug crimes.  Of the 214 selected, 67 were serving life sentences.

Hopefully he'll get around to commuting White Boy Rick from Detroit, who won't be resentenced despite the clear and obvious mandate from Miller V. Alabama

I think it sends a message but as long as the justice system locally is a political football pointless, heavy handed sentencing will continue.

It didn't get much (if any) press, but there was a reform last year that adjusted drug sentences of those convicted under harsher guidelines of the past to conform to current guidelines.  The end result is that the number of federal prisoners have fallen from 219,000 to 195,000

Well, commuting the sentences of those convicted of federal crimes is one power the president undeniably has and there is little to no limits put on it. Sorry Jeffy Sessions, but you're outgunned on this one.
