ATTENTION, NORTHERNERS!

By act of the Legislative Committee of the North, a referendum to ratify (or reject) the proposed Constitution of the Northern Region will be held a week from today. The text of the proposed Constitution may be read at the link below.

A referendum to select the capital city of the North will be held in conjunction with the ratification vote. This vote will be conducted according to the following regulations set forth in the bill passed by the Legislative Committee:

• All Northern citizens have the right to nominate cities to become the capital of the North
• In order to be included on the ballot, the nominated city must
(a) exist within the territory of the North; and
(b) be seconded by another eligible voter
• The capital will be selected via Instant Runoff Voting

Citizens should nominate and second cities in this thread.

The referendum will begin at 12:00:00 AM (EST) on Friday, August 12 and conclude at 12:00:00 AM (EST) on Monday, August 15. Questions and concerns may be forwarded to myself or to Deputy Chairman Cinyc.

I second Boston, so it can be put into contention.

Actually, New York City and Pittsburgh are two metropolises that are too congested already.

We should not have the capitol region located in these already congested areas.

Somewhere in the environs of Boston would be better.

As a New Englander, I oppose placing the capitol in Boston. It's way too far from the majority of the population, being east of even most of New England.

I support something in Pennsylvania or Ohio.

As much as I love my beautiful city, somewhere so far away from the centre of the region is not the place for a capitol.

The capitol of Atlasia, however, is on the east coast, anything but central.

It was when Atlasia only had thirteen states. Wink

I'm not sure if FairBol's nomination counts because he has not yet reached the post number threshold or been a member of the forum for the minimum required time, so technically he is not a registered voter.

Wait a sec...I'm not sure if ascott's concerns are valid.  Secretary Truman's announcement reads as follows:

It is true that I am not yet a "registered voter".  However, I am indeed a citizen of the North region.  As such, I contend that my nomination of Columbus, OH, is valid.  I hereby request a ruling on this matter.

Actually, maybe I'm wrong.  The new Constitution doesn't appear to have any requirements for registrees, though I'm not sure if the Congress passed any regulations on registrations yet.

Clark is correct.

Registration requirements were created for the June elections, but it specifically stated that the law would become retroactive after the certification of the June results. We will soon be passing an election requirements package which will include these requirements. However, for the time being, there are no requirements to register, so FairBoi is a valid citizen of Atlasia and registered voter.

Not only that, but FairBoi has every right to place a city in nomination regardless of whether or not he is a registered voter.

Okay, my mistake.  I assumed that non-voters were purged from the rolls if they didn't meet (now invalid) voting qualifications.

Congress better reenact those laws lest we have a midterm election decided by the sock vote. Wink
