Am I the only one who actually likes "cis"? Everything that demonstrates Latin knowledge is cool to me.

The only real meaning it has in my mind is in the context of isomers of chemical compounds (same with trans). .  That's what always comes to my mind when those terms come up.

I always remember Transalpine and Cisalpine Gaul. It seems clear we didn't have the same interests growing up.

I get where you're coming from, but the options weren't exactly abundant. "Non-trans" would have never sat with cis people who would refuse to be defined in relation to the transgender community. "Cis" grants a positive, unrelated term to make the distinction between the two.

"Cis" does not sound positive.  It sounds like "cyst."

It's just the Latin prefix that means the opposite of "trans-," though.

and "Negro" just means black in Latin.

I'm arguing that a neutral etymology does not mean a term isn't negative.
