He's obviously joking here, but that begs the question is being the VP pretty much like "being kidnapped" and forced to the Naval Observatory for a four-to-eight year sentence with opportunities for furlough at state funerals?

Probably. You're always playing second fiddle, doing all the PR with limited input on policy, etc. And God forbid anything happens to the President. You might wind up thrust into a bad situation with none of the charm/popularity to get re-elected that the person at the top of the ticket had in the first place.

This is probably a good sign. A certain kind of politician who was just in it for money making opportunities, proximity to power, and relative fame would love being VP (I.E. John Edwards).

Being VP would be the opportunity of a lifetime. A four year meal ticket to see Europe, start writing again, get in shape, or even go back to school to get that second masters!
