Lol. At best this just takes the wind out of Johnson's sails and ensures that no third party makes it to the debates.

I don't know why the NeverTrump people won't just get behind Johnson. With the proper resources, he could actually make a dent, not this guy....

If he can get on the ballot in AZ, that may help Clinton there as the AZ is about 10% Mormon, he could plausibly snag 2-4% of the PV there.
The deadline passed months ago

According to Richard Winger, he could make about 1/3 of the states without a legal challenge, and get to almost half with successful legal challenges. Some of these are completely unrealistic though, like California, where they would need 178039 petition signatures in 4 days. Commenter Jeff Becker thinks that these 13 are the realistic ones:

Alabama (5000 signatures in 10 days)
Colorado (super easy - only pay money - but only have 2 days)
Kentucky (5000 signatures in 1 month)
Louisiana (super easy - only pay money)
Minnesota (2000 signatures in 2 weeks)
Mississippi (1000 signatures in 1 month)
Montana (5000 signatures in 9 days)
North Dakota (4000 signatures in 1 month)
Rhode Island (1000 signatures in 1 month)
Tennessee (275 signatures in 10 days)
Utah (1000 signatures in 1 week)
Virginia (5000 signatures in 2.5 weeks)
Wyoming (3302 signatures in 3 weeks)

Looks like the political party will be a mix of Independent and "Better for America." Does he have a running mate yet?

Haha. Thanks for that one. That state only needs one signature.

For an independent candidacy, there's not that many that are feasible. My phone screen was the perfect size to capture all the states in which the deadline hasn't passed. McMullin can pay for a ballot line in CO and LA. Utah will be tight, but probably doable. Not sure about states where it a new party could still be formed to contest the presidential election.

It's actually kind of impressive they managed to find someone again with no preexisting Wikipedia article.

Honestly I don't get it. Why can't they get somebody who people actually know exists. Mitt Romney? Jeb Bush?

Basically nobody in real life (if you will) actually knows who McMullin is, let alone will vote for him. If they want to be serious about this they need somebody like Romney to run. I know he doesn't want to but since he knows he isn't actually going to win who cares? McMullin is just going to wind up as David French 2.0.

I imagine that he could get a decent portion of write-in votes in most states. PA, NH, and IA don't have filing requirements for write-ins, and of the states that matter, only NV doesn't allow write-ins

Presumably this is an opening act for either UT-Sen 2018 or UT-Gov 2020? More likely the former.

Who? By that metric, Atlas should launch its own Presidential candidate.
