Either way, it's a no-win situation for Trump.

True. If the Trumpster doesn’t show up, he will anger voters and look arrogant. If he shows up, Hillary will destroy him and expose that his so called policies have no substance and are empty phrases at best.

My prediction:

He'll show for the first debate, and get demolished.

He'll find some excuse to not go to the 2nd debate, and the news cycle will destroy him.

His family + Manafort will force him to go to the 3rd debate.  He'll have a ton of talking points memorized this time. Because of the spectacularly low expectations, the debate will be a draw.

As I said in another thread, this will entirely depend on the polling situation at the time of debates, on Trump's read of the public opinion, and his assessment of his abilities to shake Clinton in a debate.  Right now, being 10 points down, he would probably show up for one debate, try to surprise and blind-side Hillary, and refuse to debate any more.  But that can quickly change.

What Clinton is trying to do with this challenge is to make Trump commit to something, so he would not have leverage later on, to change the rules.  As these debates could be the last "trump card" (sic!) he has, I don't expect Trump to bite.

Trump says he'll do all three debates, but has to see the conditions. He also said “I’ll have to see who the moderators are. Yeah, I would say that certain moderators would be unacceptable, absolutely”.

I think Trump will attend at the very least two of the three debates. I think he will end up attending all three though.

If Hillary can avoid the debates she should. Anyone thinking they couldn't propel Trump to victory is vastly overestimating the intelligence of the American public, which cares about very little beyond charisma.

Some thoughts:

People can record one and watch the other, or switch back and forth. It's not like there will be a test on this stuff, or a vote the next day.

Hillary never complains about who the moderator is. She is confident in her knowledge and speaking abilities.

Trump always has issues with everything and everyone. I don't want such a lightweight pansy for President.

As soon as Trump says 'but I have conditions' then he really isn't committing is he?

This isn't the 60's where we have two or three Channels? In the UK TV debates I'm sure more people were watching Come Dine with Me or some other god awful program we love.

He'll show up to all three. His handlers won't allow him to skip debates

Trump's pathological aversion to giving a straight answer will result in some angst here, just watch.

Guess I forgot to add "as will his tendency to contradict himself in a single breath."

I'm yet to see evidence of his handlers actually handling him.

I hope so. I'd be happy if the Packers never won again.
